Why do people seek chiropractic care?

Pain is the principal reason people seek chiropractic care. Whether your pain is acute in nature or recurring, it usually does not resolve on its own. It's not only trauma but lifestyle habits such as slouching on a sofa, excessive weight in your child's schoolbag, poor ergonomics at work, carrying a heavy purse on one shoulder, and improper footwear that over time can trigger undue stress on your body.

Who is suitable for chiropractic care?

Chiropractic care has been proven to be effective on everyone from newborns to those well into their golden years. Many of the aches and pains from ordinary everyday activities that wear on your spine and joints can be prevented through routine chiropractic care. Whether it is sciatic pain or lower back discomfort during pregnancies, the countless falls a child encounters along the way to adolescence, or the postural distortions we subject our body to throughout adulthood, chiropractic care optimizes joint mobility and coordination which is suitable for all ages.

What can I expect on my first visit?

The initial consultation/exam includes a medical history and a thorough physical and neurological evaluation in order to determine which course of action will best serve your health care needs. If no contraindications are established following your evaluation, a chiropractic adjustment will be performed. Imagings such as x-rays are requested when necessary to further investigate bone related problems. If exam findings reveal information that necessitates another course of action, then the appropriate referral will be given to you.

What is a chiropractic adjustment?

A chiropractic adjustment should only be performed by a skilled licensed practitioner. It involves specific corrective techniques to help restore the proper motion of the joints. This is often where a "cracking" or "popping" sound may be heard.

Is chiropractic care covered by insurance?

Receipts are issued for insurance or tax purposes. Insurance coverage differs amongst insurance plans so you will have to contact your insurance company to determine the eligible amounts.

How long should one expect to require care?

There is no "cookie cutter" formula as each individual is unique in their structural makeup and lifestyle habits. There are three phases of care: the initial phase deals with relieving the pain and promoting healing; phase two involves a rehabilitation process to strengthen and balance muscle weaknesses; and the goal of the third phase is one of wellness and maintenance which involves preventing new injuries and containing the old ones. At this stage it's up to you, as maintaining a state of optimal health is a personal choice just like following any diet or exercise program.
